November 29th marked the one year anniversary of Live Lighter (yay!) and since that time we’ve had a posting schedule of every second day. However, some exhilarating recent events, which I will share with you in just a moment, have led me to revise this schedule.

Starting today, you can look forward to Live Lighter posts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Monday posts will feature specialty holistic health content unique to Live Lighter, designed to help you along with your health journey. Wednesday posts will be industry-related reviews on books, articles, products and places. And finally, Friday posts will include healthy recipes or videos.

Stay tuned to this Wednesday’s post as I review the posh holistic health spa resort in Bancroft, Grail Springs, which my Mother and I had the pleasure to visit this past weekend!

And now for the ecstatic news which I’m just jumping out of my seat to tell you all. For the past month I’ve been helping a group of dedicated individuals create a social media website that will change the world!

For various reasons, some people don’t celebrate birthdays. But none of those reasons are good enough to stop me from celebrating my birthday today! In fact, I think birthdays are actually healthy for you.

Here are three reasons why it’s healthy to celebrate your birthday:

  1. You deserve it. Just like Mom told you, you’re special. Everyday you’re alive you contribute something unique to the people you come into contact within your sphere of influence. Birthdays are about recognizing your self-worth and loving yourself. It’s your day to celebrate you! If we can set aside a day to celebrate the birth of our Nation, why not celebrate the day you were brought into this world? Read the rest of this entry »

It’s the first day of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, the longest day of the year where the sun is at its highest point in the sky. It’s the Summer Solstice and from today onwards, the sun begins to wane and the days get shorter until the shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstice.

It’s also called `Midsummer’ because in some parts of the world they recognize May 1st as the first day of summer, ending on the first Saturday in October. June 21st falls in between those two dates and is a day of celebrating life, abundance and kicking back for the heat of the summer. In the 21st century, that means summer holidays!

Today marks the end of Nature’s long winter sleep and the reign of night. Welcome the first day of Spring ! It is also called the Vernal Equinox , when day and night are nearly equal. Everyday from now until the summer solstice, we bask in ever increasing daylight.

Spring is the time for new beginnings. The sun awakens the dead - so remember those New Year’s resolutions that you broke ? Well they were just hibernating, percolating in your brain until the right moment. The time is now to get what you want out of life.

Happy Irish Day, Folks! To help all you health conscious people join the festivities without a guilty conscience, I thought you’d be interested in knowing your healthiest choice out of all the beers on the market.

Happy Love Day, Everyone! In celebration of St. Valentine’s Day , I thought we’d tackle the question of, “Is love healthy?”

Health and Wellness Blog | Love and Health | Healthy Lifestyle Tips | Healthy Practices | Health Tips

Intuitively, I know it is. The pure pleasure I get from human contact, the warm feelings I experience from love and the ecstasy from a night of hot romance, all reinforce this belief. But for the logical-minded people in the room, there is a very real biological dance of hormones and neurotransmitters at work here and for all for good, evolutionary reason!

Interestingly, only a few of my family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances made any New Year’s Resolutions this year. When I asked those who didn’t, “Why not?”, they almost all replied with, “Most people break them within the first week, so why bother?”

If you want to change something in your life, this post is all about why you should bother. New Year’s Resolutions | Total Health Blog | Making Permanent Changes

Change is meant to be gradual

I’m not sure what the weather’s been like in other parts of the world but it’s been beautiful here in Toronto, Canada. In fact, it’s too gorgeous!

Yesterday was 14ºC (57ºF) when only 5 days ago we were experiencing -17°C (1.4 ºF and with the wind-chill it felt like -30ºC or -22 ºF !). Everyone I’ve spoken with has been feeling “off”. Some people reported trouble sleeping, others complained of headaches, some mentioned being moody, and others couldn’t pin point the disturbance.

A gift for a health nut | Gifts a person living a healthy lifestyle might like

It’s less than a week away and if you’re like me, you’ve only just begun picking out gifts. Thought I’d help you out a bit with some suggestions for the health nut on your Christmas list:

  1. A Health o Meter weight tracking and body fat measuring scale ($35 - $60). Everyone knows by now that fat content is how you measure fitness levels. This cool fitness tool does exactly that! Check out the different features between models but it’s hard to know what’s good for another. I’d guess and hang onto the receipt.
