“In this corner… Killer Miller armed with only her rollerblades and wrist guards, a first timer to car accidents and a newbie in the steel ring! And in the other corner…a red, beat-up 1990 Mazda SE!”

Ding Ding Ding

After only 30 seconds in the first round, Steph `Killer Miller’ was down for the count. Of course, this was to be expected - no matter how tight my butt gets, there is no way I’ll win against a car! :)

On the other hand, being healthy and physically fit has its advantages in dealing with freak accidents like this one. Actually, I believe this incident is just another example why being healthy is worth the effort and why it’s worth the time to find the secret to making healthy living easy.

The most rewarding aspect of being healthy is the abundant energy that it gives you to lead a full and exciting life. If you feel well in body, you’ll feel it in your mind and soul, too. With total wellness comes the ability to look into your soul and recognize what truly makes you happy, search your mind for what you want out of life and have the physical energy, courage and motivation to go get it.

My good and healthy blogger friend, Emmanuel Lopez (a.k.a. Motivatorman ), was recently compelled by his passion for chocolate . He created a phenomenal piece of video art that affected me to my core – it was so inspirational that it created a craving so deep that I just HAD to go buy chocolate within a half an hour of viewing it!

Check it out for yourself:

Emmanuel’s video art is so moving that it’s compelled me to write a blog post about the health benefits of chocolate! So stay tuned for it in the upcoming week.

So, what has your passion compelled you to do lately? Share it in the comment section!

Many people know that sunlight activates vitamin D production in the body. Some know the benefits of vitamin D range from strengthening bones, fighting cancer and preventing a list full of diseases. What you may not know is that sunlight also might help us build muscle and improve athletic performance.

Real magazine recently reported that Dr. John Cannell and Dr. Marc Sorenson (both vitamin D advocates), are collaborating on a book about the subject, “Solar Power for Optimal Health ”. The book will cite research results from the ‘50’s to the present that provide evidence that vitamin D is related to athletic conditioning.

Today marks the end of Nature’s long winter sleep and the reign of night. Welcome the first day of Spring ! It is also called the Vernal Equinox , when day and night are nearly equal. Everyday from now until the summer solstice, we bask in ever increasing daylight.

a-spring-break.jpg

Spring is the time for new beginnings. The sun awakens the dead - so remember those New Year’s resolutions that you broke ? Well they were just hibernating, percolating in your brain until the right moment. The time is now to get what you want out of life.

Start at the Beginning

“Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.” Mahatma Gandhi

Have you ever continued to do something even after you became aware that it was self-destructive? Isn’t it frustrating to know that an otherwise intelligent human being is being controlled by some unseen force? While it is invisible, the good news is that it is within us. Which means that we can control it!

This unseen force that appears to control your actions is your subconscious mind. You know…that automatic part of your mind that allows you to operate a lawn mower while thinking about the rest of your evening? It stores your beliefs and, according to Gandhi, your beliefs predict your behaviour.

Are you the type of person who cringes when another New Year’s Day or birthday passes? Do you focus on the rising numbers and think, “Another year gone and it was shorter than the last!”

Attractive Healthy Senior with two apples | Health Blog | Reversing the Aging Process

I admit that since turning 25, I’ve often thought there won’t be enough time to do everything that I want to before I die (a natural death). Instead of letting these scary thoughts incapacitate me, I use them as reminders and motivation. They remind me to slow down and savour every moment I have on Earth AND also to motivate me in finding a way to buy more time.

But how do you buy time? What is time, anyway?

Time is a man-made concept, a tool to measure change. Age, therefore, is an objective, quantifiable way to roughly describe the change a person has experienced during their life.

Well move over, ‘cause there’s a new and more accurate tool in town! It’s a private and free online survey designed by a couple of doctors called the RealAge test. It takes into account the many facets of a lifestyle which contribute (either positively or negatively) to the natural process of aging.

The bonus to knowing your Real Age is the power that comes along with this knowledge. The RealAge website gives you loads of healthy lifestyle tips that will actually help you start reversing the aging process today!

Make healthy choices everyday because when you do, you sip from the Fountain of Youth each time.

Why is it so easy for me to be healthy? From stopping smoking to physically craving workouts, the following is a list of beliefs that allowed me to switch my daily habits from those that were no longer working for me to habits that yield the results I want.

Take the next exit to reach change | Health Blog | Healthy Living | Live Long and Prosper

I believe…

  1. We all have the power to create our lives.
  2. Everyone has 24 hours in a day and getting what we want out of life comes down prioritizing.
  3. Everyone has choices.
  4. Being healthier makes my life easier. It allows me to cope better with daily life and gives me energy and a positive mind frame.
  5. The process of becoming healthy and living a healthy lifestyle can be fun and full of pleasure; but it’s up to the individual to find how to make healthy living work for them.
  6. Knowledge is power. If I learn everything I can about health, I can make better decisions so that I can enjoy the benefits of health.
  7. Trying something is the only way to know for sure whether or not it’ll work for me.
  8. My body knows what’s healthy for it and by being self-aware I will find health.
  9. True fulfillment comes from the journey, not the destination. This is reason enough for me to find activities and healthy food that I truly take pleasure in.
  10. There are different paths in different directions that all lead to the same destination. Healthy living is unique to every individual.
